But this photo shows the basic principle on which everything is based. I can be off the vehicle, long reining the animal, and still able to dsiconnect the vehicle from the animal instantly. The thin rope running from my left hand back to the vehicle is the instant release control. This picture is out of date and latest versions show a thicker rope which works far better and next month it will probably be Bluetooth, and I'm not kidding.
NFU Mutual Insurance accept the Saddlechariot as a "glorified horse drawn vehicle but with extra safety mechanisms fitted." Anything with extra safety mechanisms is by definition safer than anything without them. The British Driving Society refuse to look at the Saddlechariot yet their own insurer is perfectly happy to insure Saddlechariots without the groom that is apparently compulsory for BDS insurance to be valid. But you will have to check for yourselves as the BDS won't even answer letters from me and have never in 8 years looked at my vehicle.
